The reason most carers foster is quite simple, they want to help children and young people. If you can and want to give to vulnerable young people, a fantastic way to make that positive change is to consider fostering.

We want to say a big thank you to Julie and Sally for taking the time to answer these questions.

What is your name and how long have you fostered?

Sally: “I'm Sally and I've been fostering nearly seven years”

Julie: “I'm Julie and I started fostering in 2014. I had a year break and [have] come back”

Why did you choose to foster with The Homefinding & Fostering Agency?

Julie: “Because I knew someone who worked for Homefinding and [they] recommended it”

Sally: “Same really, knew somebody that was already here and the closeness and convenience of it”

Why did you choose to Foster?

Julie: “Because I’ve always helped children and someone said to me, why don't you do it? I’ve been thinking about doing [fostering] for a long time, but I wanted to wait until my daughter was grown up. I reached that point where I needed the change in my life and I thought, now’s the time to do it.”

Sally: “[I] just wanted to make a small difference”

The commitment required to foster is one of the biggest concerns for potential foster carers, and it does take a significant level of dedication to foster children, however, you are never left to deal with it alone. Whenever you need help with transport, advice or a break we are always here to support you.

You are entitled to 14 days of respite leave and if you need time away from fostering, it is possible to leave and come back, like in Julie’s case.

If you have any further questions about fostering send us a message and we will be happy to give you more information.

We are planning to run coffee morning at our agency which you can turn up to for free and have a zero-commitment chat with us and other people interested in fostering!
