Today marks the first day of Foster Care Fortnight, the two-week event run by The Fostering Network lasts from the 13th to the 26th of May, it is a time when fostering is celebrated and the need for new foster carers is placed into the spotlight.
The Fostering Network is a UK fostering charity that aims for everyone in the UK to understand what fostering is and to know what a vital role all foster carers play in providing stability to society's most vulnerable children.
This year the theme of Foster Care Fortnight 2024 is Fostering Moments, an opportunity to celebrate the moments that define fostering journeys, no matter how big or small. The moments that built confidence and trust and our now cherished memories. It is a chance to show off how wonderful and rewarding being a carer can be.
For the next two weeks at Homefinding & Fostering, we will be sharing some of our Staff, Carers & Children’s favourite fostering moments that mean the most to them and encapsulate the importance of foster care.
Everyone is encouraged to share their fostering moments on social media with the hashtag, #fosteringmoments & #FCF24.
Alongside celebrating fostering, the event also highlights the need for more families to make that leap and become foster carers. We are not claiming it is easy, but we as an agency are with you every step of the way. Throughout the assessment process, we offer support and training so that you make a positive difference in a vulnerable child’s life.
A lot of statistics get shouted about at this time, and how there is a need to recruit a further 6,800 foster families in the next 12 months, despite there already being around 43,500 foster families in England.
But is not just in those two weeks that we need carers. We are looking for foster carers in Kent, Medway and London. You could change your future by making that phone call to start that process to be one of the 6,800 desperately needed to change someone else’s future as well as your own.
If you or anyone you know might be interested in fostering call us on 01622 765646 and talk to one of our foster carers about what it is like to be a foster carer.
