Skills to Foster — Your First Step
Once you decide to move ahead, we’ll invite you to our Skills to Foster training. Spread across three days, this course helps you understand the basics of fostering — why children come into care, how early experiences affect young people, communication, safer caring and more. It’s also a chance to meet the staff you’ll be working with and ask questions in a supportive setting.

Your first year is important — and you won’t be on your own. We’ll support you to complete the Training, Support & Development Standards (TSDS) workbook with guidance from your supervising social worker and a mentor who’s been through fostering themselves. You’ll also complete key training in safeguarding, attachment and first aid.
